FACT 35 - MATT STYLES

Post by theflyonthewall » Tue Mar 24, 2009 11:39 pm

Former manager of the Crosstown Rebels label, Styles was a key player on London's house and techno scene before his recent relocation to Berlin. A true DJ's DJ, he hosted the infamous Sunday night party Dig Your Own Rave and co-helmed the acclaimed Get Lost mix CD with Damian Lazarus. Recently he's been concentrating more on his own productions - releasing 12"s on BPitch Control, Dinky's Horizontal imprint and most recently Diamonds & Pearls, sometime home to Luciano, Ricardo Villalobos, Henrik Schwarz and Soundstream.

His mix for FACT is rather special - eschewing the streamlined house sound he's most commonly associated with, Styles has instead opted to deliver what is, in his own words, "a kind of a proto-house selection, '83 hottmixx style". It's a masterclass in rare disco, boogie and 4x4 entirely culled from the late 70s and early 80s - by the likes of Willie Hutch, A Certain Ratio and Captain Rapp. And at its centre is perhaps one of FACT's favourite tracks of all time: Arthur Russell's impossibly beautiful and sprawling 'In The Light of The Miracle'.

This is one of the best mixes we've yet had the pleasure of hosting, so dig in and enjoy. ''Fact Magazine''

yeah decent mix, that ronnie dyson is a classic, if you like this you'll love greg wilsons essential mix, which was huge.
