Serato on a Netbook

... anyone try it yet?
My iBook is finally starting to go south after 4 years of faithful service and Im about to move, so I dont have the cash for a new one yet.
Found a bunch of netbooks in the $300 range that look decent, just wondering if anyone has actually used one in the club yet...

I saw a thread on DOA about this, haven't read it but you might want to check it out. I am curious about this too. My wife won't let me take her Acer and try it out

The way it was explained to me is... they are suuper slow when opening a program (like 1 - 2 min for more intense programs) but once they are opened they should run normally.
My gf has a netbook and so far I haven't found it to be too slow. I should try installing serato on it when she isn't looking and see how it reacts.
If I get a chance to do that I'll let you know what happens.

Sorry my friend, but thats not true at all.
I run photoshop on my acer aspire one with osx installed on it and runs great, i also have lightroom installed and runs likea a dream, havent tried serato but even final cut works.. albeit a bit slowly when heavy on the gpu but works.
Should work with serato, i suppose all the work is done by the cpu.. just boost the ram to get things load faster.

Seriously though if I could get Torq to run on one of those I might buy one for myself. One of these day me and it are going to be alone in the house...
I think the screen will be too small for me tho I don't know we will see.

I was looking on the Serato forums about this a bit and it seems like it works fine, but the aspect ratio is off a bit so you have to scroll to see the bottom of the screen. Seems enough people are complaining about it that I cant see it being an issue much longer. Im def looking into one, might get one in a few weeks and give it a go.
I mean shit, they average around $300 and Ive seen em as low as $236... even if its not the best for Serato, I can use it for all my other shit and take some of the strain off my old iBook. There's even some with 250GB harddrives!
Mekha: Which one do you have? Was getting OSX to run on it tricky at all or as easy as just installing it and rolling on? I will deffo want to run that on it if its not too much of a pain...

The HDDs and the RAM are replaceable/upgradeable, but the weak point as far as I can tell with these cute little buggers is the CPU. Won't be long before they start sticking dual cores into them hopefully, but I'm not sure I'd trust a little Atom processor in live use at the moment.

To be honest there are not a lot of programs that take full advantage of dual core cpus. The atom is really a big pimp when it comes to processor power, for its price and its size it is quite a freaking deal. The atom is really awesome you have to see it running to see what i mean.
Getting OSX to run was really easy, you can either use a hacked leopard release that will make the installation a breeze, i went with the other route and installed it with the retail leopard DVD.
As for partitioning, i do not dual boot; i had an spare mini-pci wireless card and works perfectly with osx; the original one didnt work so well and that was the only thing bugging my setup, now with the new wireless card everything works smoothly so i just have OSX installed as my main (and only) OS. Get an MSI wind if you guys do not want any trouble as these machines are fully compatibles.

I heard Intel is working on a Dual Core Atom... and Apple just ordered a bunch of 9" touch screens to be delivered in the last half of this year... hmmmmmmmmm.
Thanks Mekha... was wondering about the MSI cause I'd never heard of them. My roomate has the Asus and loves it too. Decisions, decisions....

That is true I know Torq will only use one of the cores so it essentially cuts your cpu in half if I understand that right. Honestly I wish my old single core lappy still worked because I would probably use it as a dedicated dj machine.

Did you like the update? I still haven't put it on my lappy. I am not really all that sure I need all those features. I have it on my desk but like I said I don't really use all the new shit.

I USE SERATO ON A SAMSUNG NC10its works fine the battery life is also great what i would say it that the reason why i choose the nc10 was because it works like a dual core which is much better to use with serato also with the added fact that the laptop is tiny it works for me

I noticed they came WAY down in price and snatched them up immediately. When they came out you had to buy 4 of them and cost almost 100 bucks if I remember right. You had to buy their software and shit. Now it's 25 for 2 and it's 2 bucks extra each for the 45 vinyls so it ends up around 30 bucks. Well worth it imo. You don't have to change any settings or anything just get em and slap em on the decks.
