One of my fave hip hop albums ever, still sounds as fresh as the day it were released.B-Boy's Alpha,Pigeon,Stress Rap,The F Word and Straight Of The D.I.C are all classics too. This is the album that re-ignited my love affair with hip-hop for sure.

i think the fusion of El-P's beats and the gutter poetry is the best thing about it. everytime i hear the instrumentals i need the raps.
vast aire got so shit after this. its literally his best work.

one of my favorite albums of all-time. el-producto at some of his finest.
vordul & vast...unbelievable pairing and the chemistry on that album is tough to beat. really haven't felt anything that they've done solo though.
this album and the oxtrumentals were essential listening for me. was definitely weird growing up in NYC and hearing this album summer of 2001 and then to have September 11th happen a month or two later. the album has such a cold/apocalyptic feel throughout, definitely something I listened to a lot throughout that year...expressed a lot of my feelings being in the city at that time, even through strictly the instrumentals.
"VAST AIRE:
Birds of the same feather flock together
Congested on a majestic street corner
That's a short time goal for most of 'em
Cuz most of 'em
Would rather expand their wings and hover over greater things
That's what we call inspired flight
By the pigeons that gotta eat pizza crust every night
And "Let there be light" was understood
When a mic-stand descended from up-and-above into the hood
And if my face is worth a thousand words when it's scarred
I would only hope that two of those are coco and butta
To heal the wounds of the tissue scarred to mark the death of my womb
But I've graduated, got my wings
And you've got to let go of my constructed Lego egg-o-waffle halo
Eh yo, I'm a black man with an African
Drum in my chest that beats on the opposite of the right
Let me know I got a breath left
In this frigid fragile capsule
That allows you to fly south before the winter winds trap you
I wrap my "hell I made it" wetsuit stitch
So I can swim in elevators crazy wet through piss
I'm just a pigeon with one mile left
That doggy-paddles through this bullshit ocean of death
And these rags-to-riches words will break bones
Like the assassination of two birds with one stone
That's why I don't associate with bird brains with their beaks in the air
Pelicans with wide jaws yap names for fish heads
You'll get tossed in the flames
Where some ornithologist will find your skeletal frame"
one of my favorite verses.
i still think people sleep on Vordul on this album though, he spits some pretty insane bars.

If first you don't succeed try, try again
Step up to the mic and die again
This is the next lifetime and you wanna battle
Either you like reincarnation or the smell of carnations
The sample's the flesh and the beat's the skeleton
You got beef but there's worms in your Wellington
I'll put a hole in your skull and extract your skeleton
Oh my God, said a word twice, Vast Aire, I'm twice as nice
You get caught up, in my blade, might get diced
The flesh is dangerous here
Yo, hahaha, yo, it's Can O, yo
If first you don't succeed try, try again
Step up to the mic and die again
This is the next lifetime and you wanna battle
Either you like reincarnation or the smell of carnations
The sample's the flesh and the beat's the skeleton
You got beef but there's worms in your Wellington
I'll put a hole in your skull and extract your
gelatin
genius.

This album was literally just recommended to me a few hours ago. I just got done listening to it. It's quite fantastic, for sure.
I'm not normally big into hip-hop, but if I could find more stuff of this quality, I could see myself getting real into it.

"Can Ox is not dead...it's just a rumor..."
this line from Aesop's Bazooka Tooth makes me real sad now that it's pretty much confirmed that Can Ox is in fact over. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for another Can Ox album for years cus of that one line. fuckers. lol...one of my favorite albums of all time. Start to finish, it's fucking fire. Raspberry Fields for ever!

Company Flow- Funcrusher Plus
El-P- Fantastic Damage
classics right there.
El-P- Deep Space 9mm

beat still floors me. one of the first tunes I ever bought on wax.
definitely a shame that DefJux kinda went to shit after FanDam/ColdVein/Float/I Phantom/Deadringer because they were pretty untouchable during that stretch.
still have respect for em though. was cool they put out the Dizzee album stateside.

Yeah...Ive been a Jukie for quite some time and I was a bit pissed they started to fall off couple years back...But Cage's "Hell's Winter" really made me give em a second chance..and plus the fact the Company Flow is about to drop another album soon really sealed the deal for me..Big fan of EL and Jus
