as always, keep it simple. turn it down--refer to gain structure in the sub levels thread-- low pass your subs-- leave room for the kick. if you can't hear it when you're writing, turn your speakers up!

whats a good lowpass point for sub-bass? its tough to tell with my shitty speakers.........also, is there an ideal compression ratio for them wobbles?? going from producing hip hop to dubstep is truly a huge step, you gotta be on your feet....suddenly, a lot of my samples and sounds aren't good enough it seems

only in utopia, and that's an understatement...

keep your sub and the wobble seperated. Subs do not wobble, IMHO

I do even HiPassing on my subs

definitely hi pass the subs and bassline

probably the kick too

if you hi pass to 30-50 hz it can make a big difference in cleaning up your bottom end and make it sound louder and tighter (cos you're not eating up headroom with frequencies that your speakers can't reproduce anyway)

I never hipass the sub or the kick - might EQ the kick with a tiny bit of low shelf reduction or a thin dip @ 60hz so theres more room for the sub. For most of the midrange bass tunes I'll stick the sub through the Kjaerhus MPL-1 limiter (no other limiter will do in cubase anyway) and boost @ 60HZ with a wide (0.1) bandwidth its extreemely important that the limiter is the last effect in your chain (insert 7/8 in cubase) otherwise you will just be EQing after it which wont help you. Once the sub is boosted you can reduce the volume of it and get it under control - make sure your midrange bass has a steep hipass on it (24db HP filter) otherwise it will fart and distort horribly. Oh yea sub is usually lowpassed at the same frequency or lower than the HP on the midrange bass 150-200HZ usually.

Yeah, just read the thread and you'll probably know all the answers.
