o if only I had that money m80. this is my first hardware purchase. soft synths just don't cut it for me for basslines. Can speak very highly of the Korg Legacy collection though, just not for basssss.

it is tough, i've used the lead 2 and absolutely love it but more people are telling me to go for the LP. I'm hoping guitar centre has a demo model so I can try it out. purely for basslines btw if that can help you advising me

both are great synths, extremely tweakable. In truth, buy one and then save up some $ to get the other!
in even more truth-- the moog looks way cooler. if that means you'll mess with it more--then that's the one that you need.

the fact that you want it purely for bass means its not even a question...
moog is king for bass!
i had to decide between a lil phatty and a dsi evolver keyboard and i went with the evolver...because it does fm and can take incoming audio signals. not trying to make your decision any harder but i love my evolver! i definitely plan to get a moog eventually though....
so i would say lil phatty

think I am starting to swing towards the LP. I can get a Stage for $900 or you think I should save a bit more for the Stage 2? I can't seem to find what extra's are on Stage 2 and if its worth the extra $400.
I've never owned a Moog, how is the build quality? Is it worth buying a warranty?

duh! still forgot we live in the age of google. the differences aren't worth the extra cash IMO. USB Midi, which albeit is a great feature, I can live without and tap control for the midi clock and arpeggiator. I can actually upgrade to these features for an extra $100. not too shabby.
I'd really love to see a vid of someone getting down with some dirty basslines on one. If anyone can link me i'd greatly appreciate it.

yeah that guys great. pretty much my main concern is the ability to create basslines that are rich across all frequencies. I know I can do this with the Nord Lead 2 and play it right into pro tools. With the vast majority of soft synths I find I have to starting doubling up all the time and run a lot of lo pass filters to get a nice warm sound that especially rattles the low end. I have the Korg MS-20 ATM and although it has a nice sound to it it's not as full and rich as the Lead 2.

each one is handmade, that being said, could be like a nice vestax mixer back when they were handmade (dont know if they still are?) where you either get one that shits out quickly or works for life.. most likely the latter though.
Overall, the LP is probably going to last you a damn long time if you take care of it. I'd go for it - for basslines you only need a nice crunchy monophonic signal anyway

one thing that was really putting me off the LP was you can only save 100 patches, over writing the presets. this genius has made a vst controller so you can store your presets on your HD.

I wanted a real analog again and lusted after the LP but the price is high so I had to wait. As I was saving, Dave Smith released the Mopho, which imo easily competes with the moog soundwise. Obviously if your a player then the keyboard of the LP will be essential but as a mono analogue sound source it should at least be checked out as an option.
I got mine new for £260 uk so maybe you could grab one and a s/h nord for the same money
