Ska, oi & rock-a-billy, the people doing that stuff back in the 1970's and 80's were really experimental with melodies, for the 1st time "rock" music actually had some syphonic value,. I played the cello for 14yrs so i enjoy going to see a performance every now and again.... Really im into tons of music outside electronica,..... even if i dont enjoy the genre i still like to learn the ins and outs of it, just cause it never hurts to have the knowledge. I am currently helping this kid with acoustic tracks,, atm.

Eops wrote:The biggest inspiration for production for me was the day I stopped hating and actually listened to 'Pet Sounds' by the Beach Boys!
That record changed everything for pop music and had Brian Wilson not gone totally mad there would have been several more lps of that quality.
Without Pet Sounds there would be no Sergeant Pepper as Macca fully admitted to copying the style wholesale. It was one of the first lps to take more than a week or two to record - the fact it was all stuffed into an 8 track is nothing short of astounding! Following that there was Good Vibrations which was the first 6 minute single - and it got to number 1 everywhere with a hugely complicated arrangement no one thought would work. gah I could go on ... I really used to hate them so if you are ****** you really owe it to the production gods in the sky to hear it.
I like shitloads of stuff from Jazz to Death metal - but Pet Sounds made me realise what good production can do!

Yeah, Dark Side Of The Moon had the same effect on me, except that I've never hated it.
The production on Dark Side is outstanding... It sounds like it could have been released last month.
Easily the best album ever IMO
