Filthy Bass

Post by gadders » Tue Apr 21, 2009 12:09 am

Hi folks,

Sorry to create another bass thread, I'm trying to get to grips with Reason - so I've been reading up about production stuff, having a general mess around to learn by doing etc. One thing I'm struggling with is that facemelting dirty agressive bass sound that the likes of rusko use. The wobble is all fine its just the overall mid-range sound I can't really figure out how to replicate. I know its not original but got to learn somewhere right?

Any advice is much appreciated :)

Phil.

Use the Scream 4 distortion device as an insert. In fact, create a chain of Scream 4's! :)

Maybe try using the Tube and Tape settings with the 'Damage' control set to max.

TBH i think rusko type bass sounds are more reliant on the basic oscillator shape and tuning than the distortion. Load a few maelstroms into a combinator and use some of the more esoteric waveforms at many different octave settings, and use that as the starting point instead of a few detuned saws or whatnot

Which ever tickle your fancy. It's your music, make it how you want to hear it. Regardless of what you make, there will be people who love it and those that hate it...... <shrug>

Music is about creativity and expression. If you blindly follow what we (or Rusko) do, you're effectively making music by numbers... Useless.

go and experiment!
