Just down loaded the upgrade to 6 and it doesn't have the sampler they siad it would come with for free. Any body else have this problem?

It's Hidden by default. Go to options, go into the "products" tab to activate the demo. As far as I'm aware Sampler is an add-on you have to pay extra for, like Operator. I'm not impressed that it's not a straight upgrade to Simpler. Live 6 is very disapointing in general. I hear no improvement in audio.

I've changed my mind about Live 6. After using it a while I'm now impressed with the upgrades. Being able to freeze and flatten midi tracks is a godsend - especially given that I'm using a trashy, half broken 5yo laptop with embarasingly poor specs. Makes rewiring into cubase a lot easier, given that vsts wont work through rewireing.
After all the hard work Ableton have put into Live, Sampler and Operator, it's such a shame they've already been cracked. Damn those morally reprehensable people who use isoHunt!

bro, don't give up on the program. Live 6 is stellar, definitely worth the upgrade.
i'd say see if you can get by without the Sampler at first before shelling out for it. The rest of the program has so many strong features.
my 2cents... 'sides, you're already making killer tunes without Sampler, won't you just be able to make dem faster now?
peace,
d

To be honest i don't use ableton for tune construction. I use logic.
Cheers though

aye.... but Live IS getting better for making tunes from scratch, almost good enough to ditch Logic. In fact, i could see myself using Live strictly for my dubstyle, Logic for other stuff.
last track i did was all in Live... but the 6 beta. don't have my update yet so i can't even re-open it!
peace,
d

From what i've seen there does appear to be a lot of potential, But i just cant be bothered to learn a new program from scratch. It's really sad i now, and i know i could do loads with it if i give it the time it needs.

it's a shame about the sound quality.
i found it so easy to use ableton as a sequencer but more than 4 channel together crash..doesnt make so much different tho if u use a better sequencer and can't make sounds come out clean...

whats this about sound quality? have use v4 in the past n never noticed any problems with definition...
was thinking of using it to run a live pa on, is it gonna fuck up my sound?

in the past it would auto-warp everything, optimized for beats, but now there are different settings for tones and whatnot... i find it you don't warp what doesn't need to be warped then the sound is fine.
otherwise, if you're talking about the sound quality of the mix engine itself, i don't find it any worse than Logic's...

Yeah i agree with you on that.

further to this... not to brag or pimp my own too much... but the latest dub track i whipped together was done completely in Live6 beta in about 24 hours (with the exception of some of the drums i had as an idea already sketched out in Reason 3).
check out "get outside me"
www.myspace.com/digitaliadub it's my personal best in this sound so far. even the triplet bass sound (MASSIVE loud with a sub, especially at better quality than the myspace player) was done with Operator in conjuction with some Waves and Powercore plugs.
once i get Live6 rockin' i see myself knockin' out all my dubstyle with it, since the production style isn't
too demanding (read: i'm gravitating towards the minimal) relative to some of the other stuff i do.
bigs,
d
