I've got to say, I've listened to this one about 7 or 8 times. It's pretty excellent... My play-by-play is like this...
Shuanise & Floating Points: I don't care for either of these artists seperate, or together. Wasn't bad though.
Dot: Interesting, but didn't really catch me yet. Might be interesting to hear a Dot mix though.
Vaccine: BASH. She came in ruthlessly, between the remix of the Kito track, "Bad Habit", and fading out on "In McDonalds". Just, win.
Cooly G: A mix of excellence and stuff that kinda seems to go nowhere for me. I'm more than interested to see what happens to her now that she gains peers outside of who she'd EXPECT to be listening to her.
Nadsroic: Nadsroic reminds me of Uffie, except, it's less hipster bull-shitting and a slight bit of swagger. Plus, Hudson is certified genius, and she works well with him.
Ikonika: ... I'm not going to lie, this was the only one that didn't do anything for me. I love early Ikonika, but I'm not feeling her new stuff quite as much (And before anyone asks, this has nothing to do with her making fun of me on here). Eh well, time will tell etc.
Blank Blue: At first, I didn't think I'd like these guys that much. But it was very very good. I need to hear more of this. Though admittedly, I wish I'd gotten a chance to hear what they sound like, as opposed to reinterpretations.
Kito: The least self-promoting set as far as that person as an artist, which interested me. Especially using the Rustie Mix of "Spliff Dub" as a transition piece. Her own tunes didn't strike me so much, but it was interesting that she used that moment to showcase herself as a DJ instead.
Ahu: These songs are all classics, so all we proved is Ahu can lace a track. However, the demo of Roberta Flack is so dope, it makes it totally worth it.
Subeena: Possibly the most ambient and gentle of the sets. In a way, it was the opposite of the Vaccine mix, because where there were moments in that one that just scored, instead this grew almost into a journey/backdrop.
The Long Lost: Interesting in the way that there are so many cooks in Laura Darlington's kitchen. 3 mixes of one song. It kind of shows the strength of some of these songs, even though they don't seem like great songs necessarily. Admittedly, I feel like the Flying Lotus moments were the best here.
L Fluer Bleue: Okay. It wasn't that great, but there was way too much competition for my focus.
Ghettozoid: Likewise
Alice Coltrane: Excellence, par the course.
Nite Jewel: And we end on a... WTF moment. Disco-Shoegaze? It works, certainly, but it's not amazing so much as it's surreal. Hopefully, there's more of this...
That's just me of course.
