almost have the funds to make a fat purchase, i feel as if though i'm tied between krk's (although the new rokits are ugly as fuck, whats the different?) or alesis m1 mk2 actives. i know theres a million threads on here, but i really don't know which way to go, my mate has a pair of the alesis, which i like the sound of, but he makes drum & bass, whereas, i will be focusing on more dubstep & grime. help me make a decision. my budget is around £250.

i have a pair of the old rokit 6's. theyre awesome except for the fact that they pick up radio interference. and no its definitely not ground loop hum trust me. some people pick up actual fm stations with them so make sure you try before you buy.

seems weird that krk wouldn't invest in some decent sheilding when the rest of the monitor is awesome

the buzz is there even with no inputs. even tried a power cable with no ground and it does nothing. found a thread on it a while back...

i use the rokits as well, i find they are very clear in the midrange and top end, but the sub bass response takes a little getting used to. i tend to A/B my tracks with others that i know are balanced properly on headphones and a decent KEF hi fi, but that's probably a good idea whatever monitors you use tbh.

yeah the buzz is quiet enough to ignore so atm i cbf trying to find a source, might try the ol faraday cage/wrap monitor in alfoil trick.

on a side note, i was thinking about usng an external usb interface for the balanced outputs/using it for the soundcard on a hackintosh. should i go an e-mu 0404 or a fast track pro. fast track pro has more useful features for me but apparently the drivers are shithouse

I get that with my headphones from time to time. It's more of a quick buzz than actual transmissions though.

On the monitor tip, I'm gonna pick up a pair of KRK rokit 8's. I listened to the variety at Guitar Center and those seemed the flatest. Actually, they all sounded pretty similar. I think I just like the yellow speakers. Plus, people seem to rate them well.

now seen a pair of alesis 520 usb's which are due for release this month. there active, but would there be loss in quality with it being through usb? as i'm not sure whether to go along with the matey in the review who claims it's better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL9nBJ0MT0k
