before i got into dubstep, alot of my friends were like "vex'd! vex'd! vex'd! vex'd! #1 for dubstep = vex'd!", ect.

not that i've heard anything i can really remember other than the dubstep warz mix or that bombardment of saturn plate on mu (with the flip being WAY too distorted for my tastes).

i don't hear you guys go on about them very often as opposed to the tempa crew or dmz crew, but he is on planet mu so i thought he would be one of the most popular, if not the most popular in dubstep. i dunno, non dubstep kids who were mostly "idm" (cursing on the forums??!!! lol!) crew were on thier nuts HARD.

and i dunno if im just not seeing things or do they have alot of releases and im just a nooblar?

Vex'd was my first exposure to the dubstep sound last year, with the Degenerate album and my crew (Subscience) brought him and Plasticman here to SF. I love Vex'd, him and Scuba are probably my two faves in this sound.

i used to really like it but its not really my thing anymore. tastes have changed a bit. i still like a few bits like Lion VIP and that.

yea, killing floor was big but since their set on dubstep warz, i havent really felt AS MUCH as i have others

I rate Vex'd highly. They think outside the box.

Their take on Sileni's Twitchy Droid Leg is just plain rude.

I think they're fucking amazing.

but 3rd choice is easily one of my favourite dubstep tracks, and also that orange one on planet mu.

When they first came out, what was considered ‘dubstep’ was far more ambiguous, there was less definition to the central strain. The way I see it, they’re still a major part of the scene.

I think vex’d are the nuts, I echo the sentiment of those above. The more artists who play around the edges of norms, the better. I’ve bought everything they’ve released, and I suspect I will continue to do so if twitchy droid leg remix and 3rd choice are anything to go by.

I think we should start a campaign for a limited 4x12” repress of degenerate… two tracks per side does not = the fatness the tracks deserve

love some bits, don't like others. There's a lot of different vibes cos Jamie & Rolz don't work together on all the tunes, or at all times - read the dubstepforum.com interview with Jamie for a little insight.

Also, Vex'd would never claim or wish to be fully paid-up members of the 'dubstep scene' proper - they've written a bunch of tunes that fit in nicely, and granted the first exposure was J da Flex & Kode 9 playing their shit on 1X and down FWD, then on the Subtext label, but their musical ideals fall well outside such a defined genre.

That's my only real worry about all this talk of forthcoming mu albums.. not sure Mr. Paradinas is really as concerned about weight and sound quality as he should be. Especially for the distance album.. I understand pressing up four 12s is expensive, and massive props to him for releasing all this stuff, but this is important still..

As for Vex'd, I fecking love the direction they're taking these days - going more into sound design, and focusing on a deeper sound. Their newer stuff is in a different league to the Degenerate album - Fallen remix, twitchy droid leg remix etc

Armour(supposedly Roly of Vex'd-correct me if wrong) has a track entitled Ironman.

Pinch played it in San Francisco in July and it was the biggest tune of the night for me.

yep Ironman is gonna be one side of the last in the 10" series.

I like them in principle, but don't really count them as dubstep. Their sound is more distorted techstep kinda stuff, although obviously at the wrong speed.

Saying that, Bombardment of Saturn is a killer.

Vexd is original teh darkness boh Killing floor is my fav. Really feeling and loving their stuff. There should an album on planet mu as well can't wait for it.

Since when did dub step have these rigid peramiters we have to adhere to. Isn't the appeal of dubstep the fact it's very open and should remain so. As soon as you start defining something you limit it...

this is a very good point.

vex'd are among the earliest stuff I heard. Dengenerate is EPIC and is Saturn. not heard their rmx's of which some of are pimpin.

very unique sound, but so have many breaks producers. (being as breaks is my primary DJ/floor music) rogue element for one has a defined sound as do Meat Katie or Elite force, that doesn't mean they aren't breaks producers.

pigeon holing. which I often do to try and explain to folks certain music. But in recommending dubstep, Vex'd is normally recommnded by me alongside Plasictian/Mrk 1/Ntype.

i really like them, but i happen to be partial to dark and distorted sounds.

the person who introduced me to dubstep reccomended degenerate and dubstep allstars vol 2 as my first cd's to get me into it, and both of those sealed the deal for me.

i havent been into it long enough to debate where the line lies between what is dubstep and what isnt, but in my mind i think of them as abstract dubstep i guess.

the need to put a name to it kind of bores me to be quite honest. it is what it is, ya know?
