Propellerheads Set To Enter Digital Audio Workstation Market

World Exclusive!

According to our sources in Sweden, Propellerheads will use their upcoming Producers Conference (see locations below) on May 9th to announce a new Digital Audio Workstation product. The Reason community has been clamoring for the Scandinavian concern to add a no-holds-barred audio recording feature into the product since it first debuted, but has never acquiesced. — On May 9th, Propellerhead Software’s faithful will finally get what they’ve been asking for, but will it be what they want?

This will not be an update to Reason, which will retain its own product category, but will be a new standalone product that will have full-on audio recording capabilities.

I hate to be a naysayer so early on, but do we really need another daw on the market? Should Propellerhead Software foucs on implementing all the features Reason and Recycle lack that its huge user base keep requesting?

I'll give it a chance when it lands. If they use Reasons ability to wire things within the DAW environment, they may well be onto a winner!

Imagine Reasons rack, crossed with Logic, with VST compatibility and full audio recording support! :)

Anything less = FAIL imo :|

What do you care? You can just keep using Reason 3 forever!

Yeah I don't give a fuck about this. It comes much too late. I am hooked on Ableton. 2 years ago I might have been excited. The biggest problem they are going to have is this is build 1 and it is going to take years for them to work the kinks out of it while other DAW's have already stood the test of time. Prop heads will go out of business on this one imo.

Interesting... We'll see what they bring. I used to use reason a lot. It's great for quickly getting a sketch together. I've since "moved on" to protools..but I still love the simplicity and ease of getting a track going. I'm not so into the "clips" in R4, but thor is fun. Anyway, I've always loved their design sense and it will be cool to see what they come up with.

The only way that this will be interesting is if its fully modular and patchable like Reason, with audio and VST support.

Unless they really get their shit together for this, I only see it as a bad thing; they're going to have an all-new project that'll take years to develop, and in the meantime they'll be paying less attention to Reason and have less incentive to add features it desperately needs. I'm a Reason user and love it, but I can see this being the nail in the coffin that leads me to setup Cubase as my main DAW (really should've by now, anyway).

Started off using Reason 3, loved it for it's layout... allowed me to lay stuff out quickly. If this has a great workflow like Reason does, it could be big.

I imagine that the focus will be heavily on audio with very little in the way of stock vsts or beat programmers and the such.

More like pro tools than like reason - so that people with the money will buy both reason and the new daw and use rewire to make a propellorhead super set up.

thats my prediction

good luck to the propheads

I doubt they'll be able to compete with Steinberg, FLStudio, and Ableton
