Anyone else feel like there must be a better way to spread peoples music? or atleast make people aware of new ones, like an RSS feed or something... The songs in the dub section don't really get the attention t hey diserve and so i think there should be a new way of spreading it...

i had an idea about a radio station that only plays unsigned peoples tunes but i am to damn lazy to do anything about it. dubs section isnt good though is it

Imo there is nothing wrong with the dubs section. If you give feedback to other people then im sure you will get some feedback back. The Dubs section does work but there are to many people just posting up tunes, bumping them loads and not even considering giving feedback to others thus making the forum a bit still.

Would be better if more people looked in there though and posted. Its an ideal place for people with sets out or on radio to get some good exiciting music that no-one else will have.

I like how KVR do it. they have a small side bar showing the latest tunes posted. Click on a link and it takes you to the full post to leave feedback etc.

The RSS idea could work too.

add on a simple 5 star rating system poll to every tune posted in dubs that way people can leave anonymous feedback as opposed to the snatch and grab 320 crew which seems to be a necessity over there

yeh and perhaps a differnet style of post or somethign so that you can easily see the artist the tuen and some tags or something like... and the rating would be huuugely beneficial, I would imagine there is a huge amount of really good tunes in the dubs section, but they all get lost once they leave teh first few pages...

Hmmmm... the radio station thing is a good idea, although I would worry about unscrupulous types recording them straight from the stream.

The RSS feed thing would be good too, but any time adding features to this forum comes up the idea gets shot down pretty quick... which pretty much takes away all the other options too - 5 star system, sidebar idea...

I agree though, there needs to be a place (probably would have to be other than this forum) for uploading dubs for the intent of contructive critism and not just to get the typical response of

There are loads of free forum applications out there, free sites, free everything... we could probably set it up between us...

I think what we would need to agree on before it was even started was a basic site plan though. Rules, regs, some way to encorage feedback and make sure that the focus of the site stays on that and not just another dubs repository.

people need to put a description of the track in the title (ie "wobble" or "2-step" etc), I can't be arsed to sift through them all blindly

The site could have rule where you have to put two posts in other threads per thread you make so that people dont sign up post and walk off... or maybe something that wont close after listening so you ahve to leave feadback :S

Even if it was just a better form to make feedback quicker, anything just to encourage the average user...

I agree with making more of everyone's tunes. It's hard to get the time to have a proper listen and give some decent feedback regularly on that thread. Not that I've really got an alternative. Could a radio thingy really work? I thought the people on here were scattered all over the world.

Drop less tracks... Pack them instead of posting tunes everyday ? tho its not problem we can solve in a day

i cant remember the site, i could track it down. but it was a site used for live streaming home dj's and people would watch them from anywhere around the world.....we could set them up and have like a diffrent person each day for 2 or so hours just playing tunes hed found in the dub section that week..

so like from monday to saturday hed cruise the dubs section collecting songs to play on the sunday. and after that show, hed cruise through the new ones and chuck the worthy ones into his playlist?

and we could just spam the URL all over the net and get heaps of people to watch.

Why not make it a standard to post up the tunes on Soundcloud. Youll get feedback from DSF members on there and also from their community.

I hate having to download all sorts of shit just to listen to tunes. Thats why I don't even check out the dubs personally. I will give feedback, but waiting 5 minutes to download a song im only going to listen to for 15 seconds sucks. Only the bad ones tho, if a tune catches my ear ill treat it proper.

IDK I think it's effective. If you can give 320's out it helps alot. You don't have to post a link you can pm a few. Even if your shit is signed you still have to give em out for free that is how it works. I find people will give it a listen if they know they can get some music out of it.

Ultimately the best way to get yourself out there is door to door style imo. Hit people up with PM or IM or whatever. Go directly to labels that you think would like your stuff. Most labels have their handles attached to their posts vvv stick them in your buddy list but make sure your stuff is tight because if it's not labels may ignore you in the future.

the initial idea of the dubs forum was for it to be like a vinyl shop. you see a rack of records and you walk up to them, flip through, and pick a few to go listen to. learn about new artists, and new tunes, etc. cratedigging.

thats the original idea.

obviously, its taken off like none of us ever imagined it would. the reason why we didn't have a ratings system or a top ten system from the start, is due to the way the forums work and the ease at which they can be abused. it would be too easy for people to take the piss...ie..people creating fake accounts just to rate themselves,etc. very very early...years ago....doa tried a rating system and they quickly realized that people were abusing it and killed it off, eventually to replace it with the doa shop.

ratings and top ten's also present the other issue, of segregating and putting a few producers on a pedestal due to current trends in the scene, and then isolating everyone else and their sounds as well. there's also the whole idea of finding out about an artist or sound. imo, i think good music, no matter where its from will get through. it always does.

i think itunes culture and how easily music is rated and reviewed these days, in some respects removes the cratedigging culture from music, which is so important. music doesn't get better just because you can discover it faster.

yeah i think it really sucks man i rarely get any feedback and i GIVE my share. really disappointing actually especially since i spend a lot of time listening to others music i just would like some feedback you know?
