So Record is going to have a dongle, I dont like it but for me I dont record anywhere but home so I realized it wont be too big of a deal. But if they use a dong on all future updates would you still upgrade or buy?
It seems like Recycle should have an update long over due, what if thats on a dongle?
Just shocks me their doing this, been using Reason since 1.0 and never had to dongle anything.

I wouldn't really care! I dunno why everyone is getting their panties in a twist - just means they actually have to buy the software if they want to use the new version/not be in demo mode, this is bad, why!? As tight as most people are for money these days I can understand people whom do make music as a hobby and not make money out it will go and get cracked software but its like DJing and moaning about vinyl costs money or you have to buy needles to play your vinyl..
Producing is quite an expensive hobby but you get your penny worth!
And 1 USB port, big deal! Just buy a hub for like 15! and you get 4-8 more slots.

^ the ONLY issue I would have with it is port usage. Sometimes those dongles dont work right if they're in a hub, and Im already almost maxing one out already on my current setup.
My thing is if you're gonna go so far as to make a dongle, but some extra processing power in it too. Have it handle some of the effects processing or some other function that eats up cpu.
It is a good way to go though, seeing as how every version of it has had a crack on the web within a few days. On the flip though, dont see why they dont go the Ableton route and have the prog ping home everytime it starts and the comp is online.
Deffo wont stop me from buying it for sure.

people that don't mind dongles or think they are a good idea, apparently haven't had to use one (or multiple

)...
after being raped by iLoks for long enough, i'll never buy another app that uses a dongle.
have a dongle malfunction in the middle of a session and come back and say they're a good idea
and, if you think there won't be a cracked version because of the dongle, you're sadly mistaken.

ive used many programs with dongles... never a problem. Serato has a dongle i use almost daily called the SL1, never hdd a problem with that one ever. iLoks sucked yeah, but its a third party dongle on a PC... i expected problems with that one when i first saw it in the store.
and true, there might still be a crack, but it will def take longer...
enough about cracks though, if you like it buy it, if you cant dont produce. dont steal. bad for karma, especially if you're stealing your tools of creation

I don't mind the Cubase dongle, but I do have to use a USB hub to allow for enough ports. My laptop only has 2, and I need at least 3... midi keyboard, audio interface, and the dongle. If there was no dongle, I wouldn't need a hub.
But, having a dongle means less piracy = more money for Steinberg = better software.

Like I said I have never used a dongle, so I guess I'll give Record a chance and see how she goes, it's going to be good for Reason users. I have been waiting for an audio in since day one.
But if Reason 5 or the next Recycle have a dongle, it will probably never get bought by me. Logic or DP will. I couldent deal with not being able to open files while jamming out in the middle of no where because I forgot the "key" and have no internet.
Guess I'll try the hub, hopefully it will work as it should.
If only they put a USB in, on the thing I would be happy. If they also put some storage on the dongle I would be happier.

I dont do dongles...
& tbh, recycle is great as it is, no need to overcomplicate the program.

Was thinking about this and a light bulb appeared above my head. What if the dongle was a flash drive and the program it self was installed on it! No installation disks, you just pop that sucker in and go. They could even make it big enough to hold your vst and project folders. You would actually WANT a dongle then innit?
You said you didn't mind the "dongle" with Serato. It kinda bugs me with Torq because there are times I am rushing to get ready for gigs and I would like to just load up the program and stripe tracks while I am getting ready but I have to plug that fucking connective in. It is a minor inconvenience but it's still an inconvenience. Would run a crack to get around it if there where one.

Dongles are a pain in the ass. They slow things down, and there a bitch to get replaced if they break or get lost. If Reason 5 has a dongle, I foresee everyone running the cracked version, even the people that purchased the program.... just like we've seen with Cubase.

I would consider upgrading but to be honest I've slowly been getting away from reason as of late. Really been digging Ableton Live these days. I still use reason on occaision but mostly rewired with Ableton and only really for the synths.
