dubstep has gotten better, if anything.

Post by surface_tension » Mon May 18, 2009 8:38 am

Ya know, I was looking at the releases that have come out this year and thinking to myself... self, there's a good deal of great shit coming out this year. In fact, there is a case to be made that Dubstep has really gotten far better than it "used to be".

So all whiners should step on somewhere and start a meetup ground back in 2004. There's a ton of great stuff out there. Stop crying and tell your mum to change your nappie and wash your face. Then go out and check the releases this year and tell me that the quality of production hasn't gotten better. Yea, you can name any tune you want and we can go round and round about how it's better than anything today, but I won't bite. The fact is, the people who were producing then, they are producing now. Then there are literally thousands of releases coming out a year now, as opposed to like... dozens. Just a thought.

I sort of agree with you man, some of the biggest tunes in my box have been from the last few months. Tunes like Buzzin, Filth, Saxon, Tell me are fuckin massive. Hessle, Hyperdub and Deep Medi are serving up the goods time and time again and that Kryptic Minds 12 is deep as.

Admittedly, theres a lot of wobble and mid-range mindless jump-up but this is the other end of the spectrum from the techy, more experimental stuff of which there is also much more these days.

I guess Loefah's gone quiet but he's pushing the label but Mala is still dropping bangers. Look at Eyez and tell me that aint deep.

On the other hand theres times when playing to a crowd where you know they just wanna hear "that Rusko tune" which is frustrating but I guess its just part of playing out.

Dubstep was created by a couple of 14 year old kids on cracked fruity loops... now those same people are producing tunes years later, undoubtedly they've picked up a few things in that time. Also, there are far better producers around now, IMO than there were then. Granted, there were a few good producers obviously... but 3 good releases in 3 months is about all you could wish for at one point.

Um, no?

I meant that once the scene wasn't totally comprised of rudeboys with fruity (<<< overexaggeration  ), then the production has stepped up.

I love skream, benga et al but compare like the early tempa releases with like present day ramadanman or martyn tunes and you'll see what I mean.

Also tekno is the crap they play at free parties, techno is a huge and diverse genre that definitely influences lots of others.

better? are you mad. Totally flopped it. Check how many waste man releases are getting pushed out.

Bring back the sound from 2004/5.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.
