Hey all
I'm just starting out at trying to produce some tracks, and I've having a few issues with Reason that I can't seem to work out..
Okay, firstly, with Redrum, how do you make multiple patterns? I make my first basic one, click 'Copy Pattern to Track' and that works fine, but when I then make a new pattern, which I copy to another lane, it alters the first one to match the second.. a bit of a pain! What's the go there?
Secondly, once the pattern has been copied to the track, it seems to alter the pitch up or have some sort of phase issue or something. I don't know, it just sounds bad! Anyway to get around that?
Lastly, some samples sound like they have a slow delay effect on them once I open them in Reason, for example you will get the initial thud of a kick, and then hear it again a bit quieter just after. This doesn't happen if you listen to the sample in Quicktime or something.
Sorry if these are stupid questions, I only got the program yesterday and I've never attempted to make any music without an actual instrument in my hands before.
New to production.. couple of questions about Reason/Redrum.

Just don't use redrums shitty little sequencer for a start. Make a redrum for each type of drum sound you will be using, kicks, snares etc then just build up the beat in reasons sequencer. It's exactly the same if you leave it locking onto 1/16 but it's better to take that off or at least make it 1/32 so you have proper control over your samples. (also this will stop your problems with not being able to make multiples patterns)
Make sure that the length of each sample is no longer than it has to be or your tune will sound sloppy, could be the reason for the delay you described but I dunno, not something i've had a problem with myself.

Right.
1: To make multiple patterns, you select the letter bank 1st ( eg A to D ), then click on the number bank ( eg 1 to 8 ). This gives you ( 4 x 8 = ) 32 pattern banks. But use the sequencer instead. The Redrum one is cack.
2: The phase issue is because you're playing from the Redrum itself and also the pattern you've copied to the sequencer. To stop this, just click the 'Enable Pattern' button on the Redrum so it's turned off. There's no need to hit RUN either. You just hit Play on the transport.

3: I've had this recently with some samples I imported into the Redrum. When I opened the same sample in Soundforge, the sample had a loop recorded into it even though the waveform was only the length of a single kick. So when I took it into Reason and the Redrum played it, it was looping over and over. To stop it I just reduced the length of the kick on the channel that the kick was on and it sorted it.
No worries regarding the questions, but please please:
READ THE CHUFFING MANUAL!!!
Also, the singularly most valuable tool in Reason. Use the HELP function (in the top menu bar) for any questions you may have before asking elsewhere. It holds EVERYTHING you could EVER ask about Reason.

Err, why? Redrum has 10 Channels and 10 outputs. You can have 1 Redrum for your whole kit and patch each channel into the 14:2 mixer which is much easier to control than Redrums.paravrais wrote: Make a redrum for each type of drum sound you will be using, kicks, snares etc then just build up the beat in reasons sequencer.
Waste of CPU have a Redrum for each element of your kit.
Crazy man. Crazy.
