I've been a massive fan of the simple little red delay effect in Reason for quite some time now, up until now i had a perfect little setup which i opened every time i went to start a new tune where i had 2 redrums plugged into a mixer with each output having its own channel, i then used the reason reverbs and delays as i found them very easy to use and sounded pretty good.

The problem i have now is that i want more control over each individual drum hit within pro tools, whereas before i would just do my drum mix in reason and take the stero out from the drum mixer to a stereo channel in pro tools. There is no way of taking an output of each channel post fx within the reason mixer so i am now starting to use plugins a lot more (which will undoubtedly be much better once i learn to use them). Problem is, none of my delay plugins give me anything like the effect the reason one does - it just seems to work so well with so much ease.

Anyone got any delays they can recommend that are similar sounding/ ease of use as the reason delay?

The Waves supertap plugin is great if you can get it.

Otherwise take a look on KVR and see what they've got. It's like a library of free and commercial VSTs and Plugins with reviews and stuff. Bound to find something that tickles your fancy in there.

why are you going into pro tools?

Can you not rewire the different FX through the hardware interface to channels in PT?

Sorry but I do not follow the 2nd bit you said. With regards to sound you could always save the whole project and then import the file into X and treat it there. I do think it is possible to get a good sound from Reason if you know how to set up things before the hardware interface.

Why dont you just put a new bus with FX for each hit/sampler in reason? The Reverb and Delay in Reason is better than any VST I could find, even on torrents.

The Delay unit on Reason does everything you need when it comes to Dub.

actually i dunno if it works in pro tools...

altiverb is a wicked reverb, im pretty sure that has a pro tools version.

Like you, I found myself searching for a VST replacement delay after using the DDL delay in Reason. Kjaerhus Audio Classic Delay manages to hit the sweet spot of simplicity combined with a nice sound for me.

I'm unsure if Pr Tools 8 allows for native use of VSts yet, but FXpansion VST to RTAS Adapter gets around this problem anyway...

I downloaded an awesome set of plugins from U-he the other day - great bang for your buck, and all of them sound superb.


£100 gets you 8 FX plugins, which includes a lovely sounding multi-tap delay.

I'm well impressed with them!

What kind of dub are you listening to?

There are a few fairly advanced delay units I have been meaning to check out but the Audio Damage one is the one I always seem to reach for. Can set it very quickly without having to think too much.

I've been fucking about with some delays i got off a mate and although they look well cool and could probably offer me so much more i've just gone back to reason and am now using a delay for every channel i'm wanting the effect on, takes up a lot of space in the rack but fuck me theyre just so easy to use and sound sick!

Those who are on a mac, this is an amazing delay with some quite strange time quantises (like 3/16 etc... if its possable) and its got a gradual filter and feedback to get that 'king tubby' sound- http://www.lowcoders.fr/kingdubby
