Bristol - Dubstep - Clubs.
This Oct I'm hopefully going to Bristol Uni, but I wanted to try and find out a few names of clubs that push dubstep.. I was thinking of going up in the summer and dishing out some mixtapes etc to try and get a few sets here and there, if anywhere..
Help?
Help?
Re: Bristol - Dubstep - Clubs.
Most underground clubs have regular dubstep / mixed genre with dubstep nights. I wouldn't say there are specific clubs for dubstep like perhaps there are in London.Dj Seizure wrote:This Oct I'm hopefully going to Bristol Uni, but I wanted to try and find out a few names of clubs that push dubstep.. The biggest nights and the biggest names generally get put on at either Lakota or the Black Swan (neither of which i'd recommend hanging around outside at, especially if you're on your own).
Look out for some of the Ruffneck Discotek, Byte, Sureskank Convention, Season Five (and many more) nights that are happening.
I'd recommend scoping out www.hijackbristol.com as a means of learning a bit about the scene and upcoming nights, and there are places to post mixes etc. as well. Most of the promoters in bristol are on there in some capacity or other.

Ahhh
I was going to try and find some clubs that may need a bit of a dnb or dubstep dj...
I'll google up those clubs and get in contact..
I'm going to jump on the BristolHijack thing..
During freshers week I really want to try and get as many sets as possible, So i suppose getting into contact with promoters would be sick.

Sick website - a calendar of upcoming events, and HijackBristol is even more essential, as is the UK South Events section of this very forum...

I co-run a night called Traktion in Bristol, it's mainly D&B and Dubstep. Had a few nights now, with headliners like Xample, Subscape. If your looking for a set then send a link to a mix and I'll most likely be able sort something out sometime after the summer.
If anyones around Bristol come check it out, it's at Timbuk2 on Wednesday the 10th June and only £6.

I don't think contacting the clubs will come to anything, neither of those places run in-house nights really.Dj Seizure wrote:Ahhh

It's all about getting a couple of tight mixes off to the bristol promoters on here and hijack. Also when you actually get to uni, join the underground music society or whatever it is, they usually run society nights and a lot of the people involved with the society are usually in some way involved with putting on other studenty sorts of nights.
You'll almost definitely be able to get sets, it's not quite a saturated market yet. Just get your name on flyers, get known for a couple of good mixes on hijack and you'll be away. Post something up there and i'll rep it if it's good. Like here though, don't expect to get the biggest amount of feedback on it from most people.

Did you not go to the open days? Usually pretty useful for answering questions like that. I can't really say much about the campuses for UWE or UoB but St. Andrews / St. Werburghs / Hoarfield / Anywhere near the Gloucester road are popular student living spots - good travel access and good proximity to town.
thanks for the swift reply. did get to the open day but i went on my own and problems with travel/tiny bit hung over that meant that i was late and missed it all. still had a nice wander round. would you not recomend halls? i could do either really as im a bit of a emo tnuc at times and need my space, but then again doing the whole wahay student thing could be a laugh as well. thanks alot for your advise.De-Fi wrote:Did you not go to the open days? Check back on the hijack site mate, I saw you posted there. A lot of people have given recommendations for particular halls.crutch wrote:thanks for the swift reply. did get to the open day but i went on my own and problems with travel/tiny bit hung over that meant that i was late and missed it all. still had a nice wander round. would you not recomend halls? i could do either really as im a bit of a emo tnuc at times and need my space, but then again doing the whole wahay student thing could be a laugh as well. thanks alot for your advise.De-Fi wrote:Did you not go to the open days?
