ive recently started producing with FL. the only sounds i have to work with all the presets that came with FL and vengeance club sounds pack vol. 1 , massive, and of course all the synth makers that come on FL. now my dilemma. i already feel as if i need more sounds. ive gone through all the sounds i have to work with and deffinately need alot more. specifically, i really feel like i need more pads and sweeping fx , and other cool sound fx, as well as various instruments like a saxophone is one ive been after for a while...

Where do you get all of your sounds from? Have you just collected them from various places over the years of producing or is there a really good source that has thousands and thousands of great sounds and instruments?

Also, what would i go about searching for sounds? Like is there a specific name (for example "sound pack" or something of that nature) used for all things you use to make music like pads, instruments, drums, loops, and all that ??? Sorry if i am confusing, i dont really know what im talking about.

Any good producer of dubstep (or any genre for that matter) would make their own Pads, FX etc with a synth such as massive. I would recommend mastering synthesis and making these yourself, as it will pay of in the long run and allow for you to modulate the sounds.

As for samples, the legal route would be to search google like everyone else. Also there are a few sites that i'm sure other people will post up here which are crammed full of free sample packs.

The majority of my sounds have been got through google searches, as well as free and commercial sample packs (that i've been lent, brought myself or downloaded).

You can find sample packs which do in fact contain all these things (it's good to read the description which will list the contents). Although these tend to be overused, so I would use these sparingly, or modify with filters, reverb etc.

Native Instruments Kore Soundpacks are the bee's knees. Good investment.

Generally speaking though, there's not "holy grail" soundpack. I keep a note pad at work, or in the car, and constantly listen for samples in anything playing. Radio. Ipod. Whatever. Go back later and cut it out, over the years you'll build up a much larger and personally-useful library than waiting for the perfect sample CD.

Use audacity, just select the input of your dvd player etc...

I meant, search the forum if u dont know to do this most basic of things, it has been asked a million times already.

NOT use the search function of yr computer to rip sounds.

like many people have said - get whatever you can from all over the shop...be creative!

but not only that i think it's key to put the effort in and learn synthesis and sampling theory/practice as you will be able to manipulate sounds and get more out of your samples/synths. it's not necessarily always about the raw sample - it's the end product that matters.

I'm awful at this... sometimes I watch things on videos on my computer originally looking for decent samples, but I always get carried away in the program or whatever and completely forget about the samples

erm, dont be fooled into thinking using the ?intitle:index.of? wav thingy is legal! through using this technique, youre potentially downloading some stuff thats not really there to be shared.. same as using that technique to find mp3s of songs, etc
