Best synths for creating, big build ups

I'm looking to create some big build ups, so i want a sound that gets higher and higher, but i'm a bit stuck on how to create it/what synth i should use etc. I use ableton and have a few synths like albino and dubsiren. I would like to make some good rising siren sounds as well but dubsiren doesnt really cut it. I'm not really looking for samples, more how to use a synth to get this. Any help really appreciated. Cheers

A lesson in synth basics will help here.

Oscillators produce the sound you hear, modulators change the sound in some way.

Ok, for some thing to rise, you need to use a modulator that is set to rise. A Saw shaped LFO or basic ADSR will make whatever that modulator is controlling rise up. (Try these settings on an ADSR (Slow attack, max decay, max sustain, zero release)

So for a rise in pitch, you need to route your modulator to one of the pitch controls, ie pitch bend. (Perhaps the afformentioned ADSR?)

If your audio signal passes through a filter, tie your modulator to the filter frequency cut-off. Experiment with different filter types, ie, highpass, bandpass & lowpass...

That should give you some kind of rising sound on any & every synth in existence!

A quick word about modulators, some modulators are hardwired to certain controls, others are user assignable. Complex sounds often use multiple modulators assigned to different synth and effects parameters, Each modulator will change the sound in some way.

there should just be a sticky on synthesis in general if there isnt already

instead of "what is good for pads" "what is good for basslines" etc.
its basically all the same minus some negligent features
