Think it would be an issue if it's up for mp3 release as there will already be copies about and being the most easily copyable format available it could be up for file sharing. If you want to promote the tune, stick it up on myspace at low bitrate, and then just send promo's out to dj's that you trust - the majority of them won't file share as it means they're less likely to get sent promos in the future. Even if you were selling them as mp3's they're still quite likely to end up being shared unless you have a good copy protection on it (and even then I'm sure that'll get cracked in no time).

To be honest, even if you get a deal, it's doubtful that you'll make enough money to live off it unless it gets licensed to tv or film. Or sell tens of thousands of copies which given the size of the scene seems unlikely

Yeah i know what you mean no money in this scene, but this scene is my kind of thing. More chance of hip hop beats making money in the states thats why i make hip hop aswell

i reckon a handful to movers and shakers on the scene is good promotion, but letting tons of people download 320 mp3s wouldn't please a prospective label.

Depends what you mean by release anyway, Virgin or EMI won't be signing us any time soon and ur average indie dubstep label won't be too bothered about a few dubplates floating around
