Pendulum & Dubstep?

No im not a moron who thinks Pendulum are dubstep. I just stumbled upon this article on another forum and wondered what you'd all make of it.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sh ... swing.html

Down there at the bottom about the new album

"Do you see another change in direction as there was from Hold Your Colour to In Silico?

Definitely. This next record is going to be less focused on rock, and more focused on epic, dramatic drum 'n' bass, electro and dubstep"

:?

After seeing what theyve done to D&B im not really looking forward to this.

Sorry if this has been posted before somewhere else but i couldnt find anything about it.

Oh no! :o

Pendulum have already ruined the public's preconception of what 'Drum & Bass' is, please don't let them do that to Dubstep as well...

I stand corrected

I'm glad we have D&B producers like SPL making some quality tunes though! 8)

haha yeah trust

Anyway:
I liked In Silico. I like it for the fact it was good music, not "whether it is drum n bass or not". Cause frankly it's not.

To be honest, if they do decide to make some dubstep songs, who the fuck are you or you or you to tell them that they can't? They might be bait, and they'll realise that.

I think the problem people have is they want to say
"hey i listen to dubstep"
"oh yeah? like pendulum?"
"no way man that shit is for n00bs"
"oh right cause I guess you were around when dubstep first emerged as a genre and therefore can now judge me?"

pendulum did for dnb what was NEVER done before, which is what gave it a mainstream and broad appeal that transcended all genre boundries.

granted they're not my particular cup of tea... i still have and still played quite a few of their tunes when I was mixing dnb.

as producers the quality of their engineering is unparalleled. may not be the particular sound I care for, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion on it and there are TONS of people who are into their stuff.

I doubt they'd be able to 'destroy' dubstep like you guys anticipate they would. I am curious to hear what they have to offer to this side of the music scene.

I do believe they are bandwagon jumpers like a motherfucker tho lol

They're just another group of people trying to make their opinion of good music.. hence, dubstep like us.

just because they're famous doesn't mean they will destroy dubstep.

it means they will make a few tracks.

enter shikari have made their versions of dubstep and so have chase and status and NOTHING HAS HAPPENED.

Stop building up the end of dubstep like one big hype.

hold your colour was the album that properly got me into drum and bass and from there, dubstep. Not a fan of in silico but theres some amazing tunes on hold your colour. I'm not too keen on them now but they certainly helped establish the drum and bass scene a bit more.

Didn't they do a track already? I swear i heard talk of this months ago - possibly a b-side. Not talking about a remix neither - i mean a proper d*bst*p track.

To be fair there welcome to make what they wish, if people dont like it they wont play it / buy it. There is one person that i really want to see have a go at dubstep.......and thats Dan Stein AKA DJ Fresh

c'mon people, get over it. who cares if pendulum make dubstep tunes? has puffy destroyed hip hop? some people might say he has but good music will always be around. if their tunes get some more exposure for the dubstep scene everyone will profit from that, including the "true underground" heads. you might not be aware that the dubstep scene on the whole is still pretty much nonexistant. I've seen Hatcha play to a crowd of maybe 60 people last year in Frankfurt, people like him surely deserve better than that.

nobody ever ruins anything
if you don't like it don't listen, no one is forcing you
people just tend to get their heads so far up their asses when it comes to music and people selling out etc like they owe them something

Surely anyone can make dubstep freely as they choose.

If you want dubstep to remain purely underground you will have to create strict rules around it to make it "dubstep".

For instance...giving every track you make an awful beeping sound so no "mainstream" clubs will want to play it..

..And without the beeps it won't be considered true dubstep.

But ofcourse this is a paradox because dubstep, as i said, is meant to be made freely by anyone who wishes to do so.. and putting rules around it will inevitably make a formula to it's creation
