Right, what’s the best option? If you were me & all that...

Should I buy a set of "budget range" KRK RP8 Monitors

Which cost about £400.

--OR--

should I wait for a while and get a set of Genelec 8030a's

Which cost about £600, which are still "budget" if you compare them to a pair of 1032's - which might as well cost a million as far as I'm concerned.

Note the KRK's have a better frequency response at the low end
(KRK= 45Hz-20kHz. Genelec = 58Hz-20kHz). Frequency response aint everything - so is the stereo imaging better in the Genelecs or what?

I have a crap low paid job and have been struggleing to get the cash together to get monitors for months - so I don't want to make the wrong decision.

although after listening to quite a few different moitors i got Tapco s8's and im very happy with em

I'd get some yamaha's with a sub mate...

crystal clear on top end....

I got some MSP5s and am well chuffed with em, you may be able to get a pair for around £220 and pick up an accurate sub...like a yamaha SW10

personally, i would say genelecs or event 20/20s if u can afford it

MSP5s with a sub is not a bad idea also.

BUT

remember how u treat ur room will depend upon how ur speakers sound.
no point having shit-hot speakers if ur room aint treated right.

my m8s company... might not be able to undercut digital village and turnkey on price but u will get better customer service & he does acosutic treatment as well

Myself, I got the Event TR8's - bloody lovely - but they cost 400 quid.

I think for your price range you should go for the Tapco S8's - basically made by makie using cheaper components than their normal stuff but good umph!! with nice but slightly fatuiging highs.

Or stick to the standard DnB cheapo monitors - Alesis MK2 - the can handle the lows and are a good build.

Never heard of Tapco but I'll definately have a look into them. Event TR8's look good on paper and I'll definitely be giving them a listen as well. I think realistically I go for either of those. They seem a better bet than KRK's and the lack of bottom end on the Genelecs along with their price have pretty much ruled them out - I'm tired of not going out!

I agree that acoustics are important. But there's no point in looking into acoustic treatment without first having a set of monitors to make it worthwhile. Kinda of a chicken and egg thing. Unfortunately can't afford to buy monitors and treat a room right now. I'll just have to improvise something for now.
