Basically i was wondering what everyones fave soft synths are?

i use Absynth, Albino 2 and Z3ta mostly, Z3ta's prolly my favourite at the moment. I've heard good things about NI's Massive and the new Zebra, any info on these?

I've got some Z3ta patches that i am willing to share to get this up and running, anyone interested?

i love both the audiorealism bassline (303 replica) and the pro version, though the latter is a bit too much of a cpu hog for me to cane it too often though. great sound and routing possiblities though.

i use the ableton operator a whole shit load. easy to get some wicked lfod stuff quickly with that. it's my 'bread and butter' synth.

oh and I love the soniccharge microtonic to death for my drum sounds. it's basically a software version of the (fucking great) korg er1 drum synth, with an added noise section for each 'part' and the added benefits of software automation and better routing possibilities. lovely stuff.

Reaktor. It's got a mind of its own sometimes though.

my copy of reaktor would start at the beginning and finish at the end regardless of where and when the midi pattern told it to play, so i stopped using it. sound quality is next level though.

minimoog n minmonsta are my faves though i can't save patches in the minimonsta which means if i get a decent sound i can't transfer it to another song file, anyone got any info on ways to do this?

Absynth is sweet for grainy atmosphere, FM7 is good for some shit.

Someone who knows how needs to get busy sortin out that new NI Massive, it looks stupidly heavy.

I like to think of Reaktor as making polite - albeit passive aggressive - suggestions about songwriting. "You don't really want to turn off that preset, do you? No? I didn't think so."

opertaor is great and really under rated.

I use a veritable plethora of (mostly) free vsts, mainly just for the hell of it...
my "staples" are z3ta, albino, hypersonic, guitar rig and crystal for soundscapes/textures...
I've fiddled with bass station quite a bit, as it was suggested by a mate, but I think I prefer the "muon tau"... don't ask me why, I just do!

Also, ANYTHING from ohm force is worth a try, IMHO...

some of the more freaky/tweaky stuff I use, mainly for fiddling/filtering is:
ANYTHING from smartelectronix- particularly destroy fx and ioplong stuff, anything darkware, the angular momentum trance gizmo, claw, gargoyle, livecut (beta version), delay lama, interruptors dub vsts and a pluggo package, but I can't think of its name...
and a whole lot more, too...

I'd be happy to point anyone in the direction of any of these, if they can't find them, and are interested, but I reckon google should show most of 'em up...


I am on the look-out for a freeware/shareware virtual drum machine/sequencer with a decent list of easily modifiable kits, particularly organic (bongo/conga-style) ones, if anyone has any suggestions... (I prefer writing/playing everything, with minimal sampling)
A mate has suggested BFD(?) but I can't seem to make it happen...

I use Albino 3 for pads, riffs, lfo n fx n shit (wicked matrix editor), Monologe is a sick tool for bass lines, A1 for some more techy stereo bass sounds. Korg Legacy collection is prettty decent aswell.

Ive got some wicked new presets for Z3ta and Albino.I'll post em up at some point, on my birds lappy at the mo so will have to do it sometime later this week

Not really a 'soft synth' per se but since NI brought out Kontakt there's really been nothing else for me. Not only has it turned my EMU samplers into dust collectors but its just opened up a whole new world of synthesis.

Make some nice, pure FM Tones in sound forge then bring these into Kontakt and build some monster multi-oscillating synth from beyond.. nothing compare to the control you have in Kontakt.. i love it to bits. badman VST, proper.

I've been using Novation V-Station for years.......love it..
proper good for wobble and tearout sounds...

the Rob Papen Blue is heavy too, quite hungry on your cpu tho...and all the synths in logic are heavy too..

fruity 3xosc, standard.

the E synths included in logic. i also use automat, buzzer 1 and 2 and photone by NI as well as the synths from garagebands 1 and 2 and the synths from the remix jampack 2.

I am looking for free synths/VSTs for the mac. Any tips?

i use viruspowercore,fm7,absynth3,battery for drums halion for samples and monolouge

well i'm quite happy with my pro-53 from NI, a simple subtractive synth with an ok sound, a couple of effects and it's not CPU-hungry at all...

there's a demo available as well...
