Heading to the capital on Saturday. Want to pick up some new twelves to add to my thusfar insufficient collection, but have no idea which shops are the best for picking up dubstep (previously done all my shopping online from a mixture of the usual outlets).

pls can has advice / recommendations? <3

Head for Berwick Street in Soho.

The big dubstep stockists are BM-Soho (on D'arblay Street, just off Berwick Street), Sister Ray and for my money, the best of all - Sounds of the Universe on Broadwick Street which crosses Berwick Street half way down. Plenty of listening posts. Patient, helpful staff and a massive selection. Best record shop in London bar none.

Aside from those, there's Vinyl Junkies which is ace for the housier end of the Spectrum, Revival Records and Music and Video Exchange for all your second hand nuggets (and comedy moody staff).

There's also Phonica on Poland Street which has a pretty good classic house & techno selection

Well. 'stopped by' bm soho earlier... and as you can imagine, the usual happened (ended up spending far more than I wanted to ) But never mind, support your record stores and all that. Youngsta wasn't anywhere to be seen (don't blame him) but ash-attack was holding the fort and throwing twelves at me fast as I could ask for em!

It seems I was a week too early - they're getting a bunch of new stock in on Monday, they did have some newish stuff in there but not really any whitelabels, all either printed promos or full artwork releases for both dubstep and dnb. They didn't have any of that Ramadanman Revenue vinyl in (although IMO have it amongst others) - did pick up some nice vinyls and did some shopping to make up for lost time though. It's smaller in there than I expected...


(And as an aside, having listened to Revenue (and the remix), have to say I'm not convinced. Is it really that good?)


Thanks for the suggestions for other shops - I stopped into Sister Ray and Vinyl Junkies while I was walking back through to the Tube (always wanted to drop into Sister Ray). If I'm around Croydon for some bizarre reason I'll have to make an effort to drop into mixingrecords.

i generally go to BM last if nowhere else has what i want, purely because they're the most expensive.

if possible i do all my shopping in SOTU

(and yeah, both sides of Revenue are that good )

BM are as expensive as I remember Massive as being (before they went out of business ) - only HTFR is more expensive in my area. Oh well, I won't stop buying online in a hurry!

Going online, aside from Intense, Redeye, Juno, IMO and Rooted - who should I be adding to my list of shops for the next time I go shopping online?

I really can't be bothered with beatport and digital releases even if they are great places to buy new tunes, I'm vinyl 'til I die (which is the final irony considering how entrenched in technology I am). I think one of the reasons I spent so much in BM yesterday was because I got to touch the stuff, play with it... Still something very special about being able to hold the direct representation of the music in your hand as opposed to just holding a CDR with a digital approximation of the music's waveform

Bumping this a bit... Juno are in the London area, right? Did they ever / do they have a counter service or is it PURELY online? I've ordered loads from them in the past but never even thought about whether they have a bricks and mortar shop.

They're online only afaik
