Hey i have a couple of questions, neither on production but they belong in here:

first of all- im using final scratch V1.5 at the moment but find it is extremely tempramental with my computer, often cutting out especially if i use itunes with it at the same time.
-ive always thought its because its old software so have saved up the money for serato (!boo yeah!)

BUT i dont want to get it if my computer will be unreliable with it.
The spec required for serato is:
# 1.5 GHz PC
# 1 GB RAM*
# 1024 x 768 screen resolution
# Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or higher
# Windows Vista requires Versions 1.7.2 or higher
# We recommend Windows XP over Vista read more
# Available USB port (USB 2.0 required
for SL 3)

my laptop has:
intel pentium dual CPU T2390 @ 1.87 GHz
3GB RAM
service pack 2 etc etc.
32 bit operating system

would that be reliable enough in a club situation...? :s :s :s

also i hate vista anyway- is it worth downloading xp agen?

oh yeah if i buy the rane sl1 will i still be able to use my laptop with my mates rane sl3?

thanks alot id apprecite some SOUND advice- and some more info if ive missed anything out.

SAFE

1) You probably can't revert back to XP on the laptop, due to the hardware on the laptop not supported by XP if it is currently on Vista, that is..

2) You can't say if it'll work unless you try - Different hardware configurations act in different ways so unless someone has the same laptop I can't say if it'll run smoothly.

Last time I used Vista (pre-service pack 1) the audio was HORRRRRRRIBLE so if anyone can confirm that its better now ...

You 'could' always get Windows 7 - everything on vista works on it, pretty much and I hear its miles more stable, though I don't know from a music perspective.

3) make sure the only thing on your laptop is tunes and serato - you don't want nothing bugging down your laptop, get a cooling unit for it if you haven't got one they're about 15-25 quid (over heating laptops = fail on stage) and I *think* You should be fine, though don't take my word as truth

Well you can check driver websites to see if there is XP drivers and revert back but if your laptop came with vista and is fairly new, more than likely it is only supported by vista.

P.S - serato software is free on their website, download it and do a couple hours test to see if its stable, I'm sure that'll be the most logical thing to do before you buy it.

yea definatly go back to xp (assuming that your hardware is compatable)
Vista has a horrible habbit of sucking up half your ram for nothing

only thing is that you need the hardware for the two decks to pop up instead of the single player.

ive had a small bit of haste with huge libraries on serato (talking 1tb or more) but i think that's to be expected
