anyone seen The Bug lately?

caught him with flowdan and daddy freddy last night for montreal jazz fest. i found it interesting at times but was generally dissapointed, as was most of the crowd. i saw him last year with warrior queen and he played a gret fluid danceable set, but this one was very strange and did not involve much mixing at all. he sorta jsut pumped layers of noise over his tracks while flowdan adn daddy freddy went at it. he didnt seem very interested in maintaining a consistent energy. definitely notworth 30 bucks!

Well it was a Jazz Festival.

Maybe an old skool God set or even a King Midas Sound one would've gone down better.

yeah teh people who booked him are quite lame.. at least it was funny seeing old folks with jazz fest passes vibing to simple city, skeng, ganja etc..

he did the same when i saw him and warrior queen here in leipzig...track per track + noise overkill..and he never played a song out, just 2 minutes or so ...we were really really disappointed and the whole crowd too :-/

Aw man I was really gutted about not seeing him, just couldn't afford the 30$ cover... I guess this makes it better
I missed him last year but apparently his set was great

maybe he was just having a bad day... when i saw him at Ape at the Apollo it was liiiive!!!!! One of my favourite sets of the night! Got me well in the mood!!!

caught him at mighty with fly-lo and kode9 and he pretty much did that...i kinda liked it though, there were portions of mixed sections interrupted by sirens and noise swells into that "other other shit"
he had an excellent t-shirt on as well

no mixing what so ever

it was either:

-the rewind w/ an echo effect to phase out the last tune

-turn the deck off so the last tune slows down

-slam it over to the new song's intro at a strategic time

-have ur mc talk before starting ur new tune

would never book him or pay money for this again, very disappointing

needs a serious lesson in "dj basics 101" because it was really painful for anyone who knew what was going on

Think about where the 'DJ' came from.

sorry mate! just meant being a good dj in the sense that it should be enjoyable and not hard on the ears

saw him at coachella with warrior queen... i was looking forward to his set more than alot of other sets to see how a big festival crowd would respond to dubstep. i was thoroughly disappointed, his set blew

It's called soundsystem.... this is how it was done back in the days of roots Jamaica taking a sound system on tour with the best artists doing PA's... i'm glad the bug keeps this going.... i'd appreciate it if i were you....

yeah- some people do not really get why it's a LIVE show.
they are representing their tunes.

i totally understand that "soundsystem" aspect of such a live show, but i think what most people, that are critical of his show, are trying to say, is that it just doesn't come across that well.

it's something different when you watch david rodigan just play tune after tune and talk over it. that's mad shit!!

i haven't seen the bug live but have watched quite a few live videos and even from that one could feel that somehow the vibe wasn't right. i always have the feeling that warrior queen never knew what the bug was doing and had to "wait" for him to play the next riddim. normally it should be the other way around.

the bug is a sick producer, but he would be the last "live" show i would ever go to. i'd rather see gilles peterson (who is also pretty bad at mixing) play a dope selection of tunes, or watch theo parrish mix the shit out of all kinds of styles...

It's weird because if you're familiar with Kevin Martin's work over the years It's kind of strange how he's been adopted by the Dubstep scene. I mean you only have to listen to his music to realise he's a bit different from the rest of the pack.

Kevin Martin is a producer/musician, NOT a DJ. But being part of the Dubstep scene being a skilled DJ is expected by it's fans.

Personally I prefer Kevin Martin's earlier God/Ice/Techno Animal stuff as well as the Bug stuff that was pre-Dubstep anyday of the week.

Kevin Martin has made some of the deadliest records on the planet........period.

Kevin Martin is NOT one of the deadliest DJ's on the planet though. That being said, Dubstep doesn't really have too many "amazing" DJ's.

saw him at west indian centre and had to leave go outside for a breather cos i thought i might go deaf

also for some reason it was pretty boring and even tunes that i normally like didnt grab me. partly because of the irritating way they were presented with loads of awkward stops and truly hideous blasts of noise

that said he has done some absolutely brilliant tunes and i do respect the guy. this was TOO loud though. distance was on before him and sounded quiet by comparison

I saw him do a set maybe 1.5 / 2 years ago here and really enjoyed it. He wasn't DJing though, it was a full on live PA from what I could tell...no records or CDs or anything. Also, I saw him in a tiny, grimy packed club with an amazing sound system, so I'd imagine that suits his music a lot better than an outdoor festival.
