They're soundcards in enclosures.

I just picked up the focusrite saffire le

they're used for getting sound in and out of the computer (built in soundcard will usually not be too great at this, they may be able to get sound out of the computer but recording in will not work)

As it stands im Just using Basic Version of Fruity with no Vsts or plug ins and when hereing my tunes played in Raves and clubs they dont sound as crisp as most others..been told this is because i need a sound card or a audio interface to make sure i get the best quality sound out of my production...does that make sense?

Well unless your sending sound out of your computer (outboard gear, desk etc) and then recording it back in then the soundcard shouldn't effect your sound, if its really bad then it could alter the sound you hear from your monitors resulting in you adjusting your mix to compensate maybe?

From what I know you can use most third party vsts in fruity so I'd have a look at the common bunch

predator
albino
massive
blue

I was thinking of getting one, what are your opinions on it? I've heard some good things about it.

For the price I got it for I think its really good, the recording's seem nice and clean

thats a small mix I recorded through it from my decks, theres a ground loop unfortunately but that's down to bad power distribution. (no fault of the le)

One bad thing though is my comp is too slow to handle it (1 processer, 512mb of ram) so I can't really use it as much as I'ld like to but yeah the converters seem pretty solid, a nice number of ins and outs seems pretty decent

Sure, I don't see why not.

As another us said, they're usually better than built in soundcards, but I can't stress enough that essentially, they are just that. But given the extra room in the enclosure, there's room for more options and connectivity.

This one is good
