What to do in Montreal

Gonna head out to Montreal at the end of July and wondering what there is to do there. Around the 24th to 29th. Looking for some touristy stuff but also the parties that Montreal seems to be so well known for.
If anyone got any good parties to hit up let me know. Thanks.
Also where should we book hotels? I have no idea what streets is what over there and don't want to end up having to travel quite a bit just to get to the city or venues.
