Previously available (i.e pre UK Funky) tunes that work

Post by MikeE » Mon Jul 13, 2009 4:38 am

So in listening to a lot of UK Funky stuff, to me it resembles a lot of tribal influenced funky house/deep house that was out a while back, a lot out of the US etc. (this is inspired by the locked blackdown vs set records thread in the main forum)..

Now, a while back I purchased what was left of a friends record store here in NZ, and have about 2500 records sitting in my lounge which I'm yet to really explore, a mix of house, trance, hardcore and all sorts of crap really. But was wondering are there any labels that I should really be looking out for. Most of this stock is from 2001-2008.

Stuff which fits the funky mould so far, has definately included stuff from 2005-2007 on the defected label. (i.e. very tribal sounding ~130bpm, heavy precussion).

So thoughts, suggestions, what to look for etc.

Africanism
Yoruba
Defected (soulfuric)
Spacekat
Raw Fusion
MAW/Kenlou

would be a good place to start for this particular sound.
