Workin on a new very heavy choon
i've decided to try and record some metal-vocalist friend of mine on top of it
was wondering two things:
1. is the mix with the vocals and all sufficient? cuz i'm not sure, I hadn't had too much experience with vocals, let alone growls and squeals.

2. Is this too radical? should i just take the vocals off?

No worries.

1) Not sure what you mean by 'sufficient' - I'd say the track is off to a good start though. If you haven't already, you may want to consider some bandpass on the vox so the bass, kick, and vox all play nice wif each other ... I'd cut out everything up to 200Hz or so, but you should play with that to get it where you want it.

2) Too radical? FUCK THAT! No such thing! Push the envelope, always.

Another thought is about what you're trying to achieve with the inclusion of this kind of vocal, and how that might change your treatment of his recording. As someone who dabbles in extreme metal recording projects from time to time (see: http://www.myspace.com/heresiarchsofdis) you start to hear one "cookie monster" vocal, you've heard 'em all...

It'd be more interesting - at least to me - to hear something just a little bit different than all that, whether it's from processing, the singer having a different sound, whatever. If you're not familiar with 'em check out Aborym and Burning Witch, two bands with pretty unique vocal styles for extreme metal.

Or you could just run his vocal track through dBlue's Glitch plug and move on to getting the song finished... (just kidding)
