Ok i just saw Bruno tonight, and being a big fan of Borat and Sasha Cohen in general, and all the hype the movie had, i thought it was going to be at least pretty good. But no...All I see is disgusting male nudity (I am a male btw), and WAY over the top homosexuality.. I mean i have no problem with homosexuals but this move was just ridiculous. There is literally like a straight minute of penis-in-your-face that takes up the whole screen.. I didnt even know rated R could even show this shit??? i mean it's not even FUNNY. all the funny bits were on the previews. ..anybody else see it? thoughts? comments?

Bruno is a gay stereotype exaggerated to the max for comic effect and also designed to expose peoples innate prejudices [seems to have worked pretty well in your case

Exactly. I haven't seen it, but Sacha Baron Cohen's tactic is normally to confront you with something so graphically that you have no choice but to either get offended or laugh your head off.

Yeah it was overly gay and really digusting at time but what was you really expecting? Baron Cohen is playing an over the top gay person and his style is to play it for the shock value. Personally i knew what to expect and even though its not really to my taste I thought it was laugh out loud funny.

That minute of the cock swinging around the screen was very cringeworthy but it was also very funny...especially when you japs eye shouted 'BRUNO' lol

I only went to see this because my missus wanted to watch it but now i think about it the audience was made up entirely of straight couples. Not a homophobe. in sight...

There is only so much humor to be had from playing against hateful stereotypes.

There was an American talk show that thought it would be funny to ambush a straight guy with a "secret admirer" who happened to be gay. Well, he didn't HAPPEN to be gay, they did it on purpose because the squirming made for better TV ratings. Straight guy was so embarrassed and enraged he went home and killed the gay guy. That is not to justify the killing, which was a hate crime in and of itself, but to say that playing stereotypes for laughs can have dire consequences when it's as in your face as this shit is. And it's not that funny to begin with. What is funny about homophobes, racists etc? HAHA, Hitler hates Jews!!! HAHA, the KKK hates black people!!! Hilarious isn't it? No. It's disgusting.

If some guy started getting undressed and trying to rub his penis on me, I'd knock him the fuck out. And I'm about as far from homophobic as you can get. It's called personal space. Ambush someone and put a camera in their face to catch them off guard because that is "real"? No. That is really how they will react when some guy tries to rub his balls on them. You get a black guy and a white guy and you put them into a situation where they are fighting each other on the street, racial slurs will fly from even the most tolerant of mouths. And another thing... how would you like it if every time someone was describing something bad they said

This is the point of it though. It is disgusting that these people exist and act this way. People who think homosexuals are evil/perverse/disgusting are out of step with how society would like to be and by embarrassing them in front of the world, you hopefully make it obvious that these sort of opinions aren't acceptable.

It's just a modern version of Alf Garnett or, for a more American example, Stetson Kennedy infiltrating, exposing and ridiculing the KKK using Superman. Get these things out in the open so that people can make use of their frown power... humans HATE being looked down on by the people around them.

I agree with the personal space thing though... I think it's somewhat better to give people enough rope to hang themselves (for example the racist/sexist/pro-slavery students in Borat - they just needed enough time to say what they thought) than ambushing someone's face with your cock. I'd probably kick off if someone did that to me, too... in fact, I'd not be best pleased if a lady ran up to me in public and waved her bits at me.... It has no prejudice behind it and if you take it that way you need to calm down a bit.

I'm not going to judge somebody as a bad person by saying "thats jewish" to describe somebody as greedy. They aren't burning crosses and banning gay marriage. It's not hateful, it's slang that has been around for quite a while.
