Not bad for the price at all. You can upgrade to 1gb memory for free too. This laptop is tiny so you could take it anywhere and still make beats. At home you could plug it into your monitor or have a docking station etc.

just another netbook.
imo useless for production/ djing with these specs:

1024x600 resolution
Atom 1,6 GHZ CPU

i tried on my msi wind (same specs, reason/cubase/samplitude) -> fail

I know people who are releasing quality music on computers way, way worse.

If you know how to bounce your audio you do not need to work with 10 VSTS on the go.

If the computer is cheap I do not care if it goes to ultra high resolutions. The point on this machine is for it to be used as a 2nd mobile computer!

Playing tunes on a laptop is not DJing btw.

I own a Netbook, what I would like to know, is if anyone has used one for Dj'ing, with 'Serato' or 'Torq'.

The size of the machines are superb, I just wanna know if I can Dj with one.

no doubt about that.

true that. i tried with reason 4.0 (any vst´s at all) and it just didnt feel comfortable. even bouncing down single tracks isnt that kind of fun with an atom processor as you cant compare the "Atom-1,6Ghz" to a "Athlon/Pentium/Core2-1,6Ghz" . give it a try.
Serox wrote: If the computer is cheap I do not care if it goes to ultra high resolutions.
the resolution doesnt even match the standard 1024x768 whats the reference for the most program-windows, dialogue boxes and stuff like that. this can be a pain in the arse. it´s not about looking good with higher resolutions but about providing functionality to the software.

i tried to point in the serato direction. people often ask about djing (digi-vinyl) on netbooks. serato as an example cant be used on such low resolutions without dragging the whole screen up and down.
there are also performance issues.

anyway, these laptops are perfect for writing posts on DSF while lying on the sofa. :D

I do not know much about the Atom processors tbh. I was just thinking this laptop could be used as a 2nd PC while on the train etc (like I plan to use my laptop for)

I am still looking around tho...

The screen is just too damn small to be useful for production. Screw Toshiba anyway, they is teh suck. For probably the same price you can get the laptop I am currently using. It is even 20$ cheaper now than what it was when I got it. 329 USD it is a steal. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 8041995463 I even see an ASUS with similar specs for 3 bills even.

Atom chips may aswell have been designed for mobile phones.

Can't do much, and as was so correctly put up earlier, 1.6ghz atom doesnt compare to a standard intel/amd chip.

Lower bus frequency and lower wattage, slim line archetecture means that they are literaly desgined for browsing, that being said I bet there are threads on this forum that would merk a netbook off.

Facepalm image for trying to control the space shuttle with a casio watch.

it may have enough power to piece together things, but slowing your (or i should say my) workflow down that much would kill any kind of creativity and productiveness. And i made tunes on my 2ghz laptop for years (was top of the line when i got it). There's really no excuse for buying something sub-par when you can get a more than decent machine for not much more at all these days.

I've had the Asus one and the Wind, the Wind was much better.. but still lacking for production. I wouldn't try it in a live setting, it was just too finicky and small. Your eyes start to hurt after an hour or so. Hacked it out too with higher resolution, more memory and different OSes..It's great for other stuff though, nothing beats playing roms with a friend at a restaurant, or using it as a wardriving and gps tool!

I was looking at this new Toshiba one as well, and ran into this which is interesting for anyone looking to buy: http://apcmag.com/toshiba_nb1000_say_no ... etbook.htm

Making music on a laptop is not music too, right?
