so yeh pretty much in the title, i kno it seems quite an easy one, but one of my decks is only playing out of one speaker, (also when recording mixes same applies) i kno its that deck because the other plays out of both and iv done all the swap arounds etc.

just seeing if anyone has any ideas on what this could be before i have to take the deck apart. and if i have to take the deck apart has anyone done this before / how challenging is it ? looked on a few design guides for a 1210 and looks pretty complicated inside. or is it jus worth taking it to get fixed?

cheers in advance

One quick suggestion. Take the cart shell off and blow any dust off on the end of the shell and in the tone arm. This solved a similar problem for me, hope it works for you!

I have the same problem with 1 of mine and I'm pretty sure its to do with where the phono cable meets the tone-arm inside. there's 5 tiny wires that are soldered down and i have a feeling that 1 of these has come loose.

this video shows you the 5 wires (yea I know ellaskins is a gimp but in this case he knows what he's talking about)

good luck

most likely the cable-- notorious for going south.

On a general preventative tip, it's worth unpluggin jacks and phonos every now and then and giving them a wipe to remove muck - speshly if you smoke in the s2dio! And give the plugs a couple of twists any time you insert them, to clean the innards of the sockets. Prevents loss of signal level and resulting noise. XLRs are less of an issue as they seal when they latch.
