ok.. why the hate?

Post by urbannerd62 » Sun Jul 19, 2009 10:10 pm

I'm a huge dubstep fan. Been obsessed with it for going on 2 1/2 years now. I live in California, USA, and I try to go to every dubstep show possible and make sure it gets the hype it deserves.

In september there is a massive rave here in Cali that Skream will be attending, and a number of other great producers. Ive been hyping it up by posting up the info on every message board/forum I can. Sadly, I've received alotta replies like this:

"dude fuck california and all you americans, UK's where the real dubsteps at, I bet your favorite producer is rusko you mainstream loving homophobe.", or "you wankers dont deserve to listen to dubstep, im sure youll turn it into crap like you do other genres."

My initial reaction isn't really anger because this is the internet :| but instead, confusion. We are all fans of this genre arent we? Secondly, Rusko's alright, but anyone who's chatted with me for more than 10 minutes about dubstep knows Im a fanatic for producers like Trolley Snatcha, Cookie Monsta, Stenchman, Cluekid, Bar9, and others like them.

So what's the problem? Is this how most dubstep fans from the UK view American fans? Or have I just run into a couple simple minded twats?

Not being funny but the people who said "bet you like Rusko" would not be impressed by those artists they are all from the jump-up/Rusko/wobble school of dubstep just because they are more unknown does not make them any better, in fact Rusko has higher production values and so would be held in higher regard.

Personally don't really enjoy that kind of dubstep but not because it's commercial, it's because when I got into dubstep it was because it was dark, moody and the tunes weren't just trying to be harder or faster you could have slow tunes that weren't hype that were the biggest tune in the genre - and the wobblefest that's going on really isn't in line with that vision - the odd tune is fine, but none of this hype for 2 hours shit.

to me trolley snatcha, cookie monsta and stenchman bear absolutely no relationship whatsoever to what i originally liked about dubstep

NONE WHATSOEVER - it might as well be a totally different genre of music

This.

Does this make us elitist? Do we not like it because it's popular? no we don't like it because it's not what we love about the music. Can't people get that into their heads?

That blows man. In America for the most part there is respect, love and support from coast to coast. I guess it is one reason to be thankful for where we live.

People really need to step back and take a look at what they are doing. Seems so silly to me that people take a song or producer that they don't like as a personal insult. It really makes no sense.
