New to this dubstep ting.

Post by portakabin » Fri Jul 24, 2009 7:38 pm

Im coming into this from the jump-up dnb side of things, and a few good nights like dub police at fabric have got my taste buds moist for dirty wobbly dubstep.

Im lookin to start a nice little dubstep collection to play out- could anyone recommend me some tunes along the lines of subscape - wrong number. Absolutely lovin this tune!

Cheers guys!

I do believe the gentleman in question is searching for neither dub nor step, but rather the current strain of angry-boy fistpump wugga wugga that is being referred to as BRO-STEP these days.

as in dudes in baggy shorts and backwards baseball hats going "Bro! What's up BROOOOOOO!"

OP: visit the mixes section of this site, and also search the juno vinyl catalogue and listen to the soundclips.

but if you want something to tear up dancehalls why don't you just strap a bomb to your chest? whatever it takes to get those bodies moving right? teehee

the list of jump up/banger/midrange stuff i can tolerate is pretty limited, but even i think these releases are excellent:

12th planet - element 16 (sulfur)
jakes - HENCH007 and HENCH008
appleblim - mystical warrior
the others - africa VIP

on a completely different level the vex'd LP from a few years ago is probably one of the hardest, but also most musically interesting, enduring and inventive records to emerge from the dubstep scene.

tbh though i imagine a crowd that wants jump up bangers is just going to want the latest identikit chainsaw tunes, rather than older stuff - the main appeal seems to be simply producing harder and harder tunes, so newer stuff is inherently going to be what they're after. go into the dubs section or check out 80% of the posts about new releases in this section, and you'll find all the grinding overblown halfstep you could wish for.
